Abstract

A common viral disease in cattle farms is Bovine Viral Diarrhea(BVD) which has two genotypes (BVDV-1 and BVDV-2) in the family Flaviviridae, genus Pestivirus [1, 2].

There is a significant loss to the herd caused by the virus, which is very important from an economic standpoint, as it spreads rapidly and causes widespread epidemics[3] (.

Developing a diagnostic kit with high sensitivity and specificity is essential to reduce its complications within a short period of time[4].

This study aimed to fabricate a conventional PCR technique for the detection of all genotypes of the BVD virus in cattle[5].

 Primers were designed based on conserved fragments of the 5’-untranslated region (UTR-5’) genes. To assess the accuracy of primers, total RNA extraction and cDNA synthesis from a BVD-positive sample was collected from a cattle farm in Qazvin province, center of Iran. Due to the ability to identify all genotypes of the virus the results of PCR showed a single band similar to the positive control of 150-bp to 162-bp fragment in BVD-infected bovine. Taken together the importance of BVD in cattle farms, a rapid and accurate detection method could be promising. In this regard, the PCR kit designed by AIPA biotechnology company showed promising results for the detection of this disease in cattle farms.
